Poll: Selecting Jamie’s Next Read
December 10th, 2009 at 20:41| I have a great selection of Fantasy novels sitting and collecting dust in a pile that I’ve mentally marked “to read”. It’s a collection that I’ve been piecing together over several years and it keeps growing, not shrinking.
The problem, I’ve concluded, is that I simply have too many options to choose from. That’s where you, my few but beloved, readers come in. I’m putting the power in your hands. Help me decide what book I will read (and therefore review shortly down the line) next. Vote in the poll and if you have any thoughts on my selections make sure to comment! |

With a series title like The Gentlemen Bastards, how can you not start with that? Although The Somnambulist sounds pretty badass despite having a wonky name. I’m ordering both of them.

Loved The Lies of Locke Lamora. It’s a good read.

Lies of Locke Lamora has been taunting me for quite some time. If not this time then it’s definitely one of the forerunners for my next book to read.
As for the Somnambulist, I cheated a little by adding it to this list. First of all, it’s technically classified under ‘fiction’ but has a hugely Sci-Fi/Fantasy vibe. Second of all, I started reading it a few months back and was loving it but got distracted. So it’s definitely a book I want to finish (I was about 1/3 in) but feel like I need to start again from the begining. It’s hugely disturbing, wickedly dark but delightfully so.
I’m beginning to sense a pattern that I enjoy the macabre and dark aspects of fantasy.

Ps.
Thanks to everyone who voted. I know it kinda seems silly but I really do need a kick in the pants sometimes to pick up a new Fantasy series. There’s so much commitment when you do this, in my opinion, and I’ve had one too many series fall short on me.
It looks like I’m going to start Lies of Locke Lamora sometime over the weekend, unless something drastically shifts in the voting, of course. Maybe when I’m through with that (and assuming I don’t then devour the second book out) I’ll post another poll and give Mistborn a second chance :)
